Pike County Bowl; What color to wear?
Oh the dilemnas!

Blue, No Orange, No Blue, Red! Kentucky Football Season

Joyce and Charlie Pinson, Kentucky Insurance Agents and Kentucky Sports fans

Revving up for game time is not easy for us women. Football is especially tedious as the weather is predictably hotter than the Sahara desert or colder than the Artic tundra; and usually on the same day. So of course layers are a must. When you have kids, grand kids, nieces, nephews, and second cousins twice removed playing on the team, it is essential you wear team colors from head to foot. Blue for Phelps Hornets and Pike Central Hawks, Orange for Shelby Valley Wildcats, and Red for the Belfry Pirates. Don't forget Black for the East Ridge Warriors, and Maroon for the Pikeville Panthers.

Yes, I am ready for the Pike County Bowl! I usually lug a equally colorful jacket, a logo sporting blanket, padded sports seat, collapsible umbrella, plus a luggage sized "purse" with sunscreen, eye wash, nasal spray, Shout! wipes, hand wipes, sewing kit, chewing gum, mints, mittens, chap stick, bug spray, band-aids, and anti-bacterial hand cleanser. A sun-visor or ear muffs, depending on the weather, are atop my unruly locks. Of course I have those us clear plastic raincoats for myself and fifty of my closest friends! I am also toting some microphone cable, batteries, or other "essential" sports broadcasting contraption. Balanced precariously on the other hand is two trays of brownies for the press box crew. I don't look like I am going to a sports event; but more like a carnival pack mule with all my belongings on my back.

Why does football have to be such a fashion hassle? Why does my closet HAVE to have so many team shirts shouting through the wool, tweed, and satin that is my "normal" life. Can't I just show up at a pep rally or tailgate party in khakis and a white oxford button down? What would the other mommies, grandmas, aunts, cousins, and sisters say? OH MY!

So as we prepare for the Pike County Bowl this weekend, four games in two days, I drag out my team colors and hope for the best. What about my husband you ask? Yeah, he will be the one in khakis and a white button down shirt, walking the sidelines and anchoring the press box with a brownie in his hand.

Such is the life of a Kentucky sports announcer's wife...and a good life it is!
